Crittenton CEO Recognized as Distinguished Alumni
Each November California State University, Long Beach invites members of the community to submit a nomination for the CSULB Distinguished Alumni Award on behalf of any graduate of CSULB that have an exemplary record of distinction and success in their chosen fields, have a proven record of impactful leadership and enduring service to their communities and society at-large, and have demonstrated pride and support for the university.
Nominations were submitted for each of the seven colleges of CSULB in order to honor alumni of the respective colleges that makeup the university community. Once all nominations were submitted a three-month university wide committee review process took place, and by late February all final recipients were contacted by the CSULB Alumni Association to congratulate the selected honorees.
Among this year’s distinguished alumni is our very own CEO, Joyce Capelle, whose career milestones and advocacy efforts on behalf of system-involved youth are being honored by the CSULB College of Health and Human Services.
The Distinguished Alumni Award is the university’s highest honor bestowed annually on CSULB alumni that are considered worthy of the distinction. Since the award’s inception, in 1985, there have only been of handful of alumni from all seven colleges that have received this recognition. Roughly less than 225 alumni, from all seven colleges, in a 31-year period have received this honor. An impressive feat by each of the honorees when one considers that this is a university that enrolls 35,000 undergraduates and 6,000 graduate students from 44 states and 90 countries on an annual basis.
For those that know Joyce she is the first to tell you how proud she is of her Long Beach roots. As a girl she lived with her family in the City of Long Beach and is a product of the Long Beach Unified School District. As a young adult, still living in the Long Beach area, she attended Long Beach Community College and transferred as a Geography major to CSULB. Years later, as a seasoned career professional, she decided to go back to her alma mater and earn her graduate degree, an MPA, in Public Administration with a Public Policy focus. An educational route, she says, that helped her navigate a professional career path that would eventually lead her to become the CEO of Crittenton Services a nonprofit that delivers an ever-expanding slate of child-welfare and mental health programming to roughly 2,000 clients, annually, in five Southern California counties.
On behalf of Crittenton Services we would like to congratulate Joyce and all seven CSULB distinguished alumni that were selected for this prestigious honor. A distinction that based on the honorees biographies alone is well deserved – Go Beach!
