Growing Stronger Together: Crittenton’s Annual Family Picnic
Food, sunshine and a exhilarating game of kickball was what the children and families of the Crittenton Services for Children and Families (CSCF) Wraparound Program were treated to on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Rio San Gabriel Park in Downey Calif.
More than 200 CSCF Wraparound clients and staff attended the Crittenton Annual Family Picnic style event.
“This year’s event theme was entitled, “Dare to Grow”, as the message denotes the continued encouragement that Crittenton families receive from us in order to help promote the idea of individual growth and family cohesiveness,” said Cesar Salgado, Vice President of Wraparound Services, CSCF, and added, “The activities chosen and carefully planned for at this year’s event were specifically selected to bring families together and encourage the idea that collaborating as a community is enjoyable.”
Families enjoyed participating in activities that required teamwork such as a scavenger hunt that incorporated community service, in this case, helping CSCF staff pick up litter at the park. The idea behind this activity was to teach parents and their children that community beatification projects are something we can all take part in. Most importantly this activity allowed for families to network with each other, and to spend time together as a community.
There was also community resource information available and a healthy meal provided for everyone that attended the event. Among the community partners and sponsors that made this possible included:
- Catholic Charities, Los Angeles Inc., Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project
- US Department of Labor, Job Corps, Outreach and Admissions Office
- El Pollo Loco Charities
Guests also enjoyed the free photography sessions, arts and crafts stations, team sporting events, and the opportunities for gift raffles. Some of the raffle prizes that the families won included baskets with family friendly movies, games and Dodger tickets.
